The 2012 New Year’s Sermon Series begins with an invitation form Pastor Allen to read through our Bibles in a year. By this, we learn the storyline of the Bible for our own benefit and also are equipped to share that story ourselves. “We Have a Mighty Source” is at the heart of this discussion; recognizing and understanding our abilities and opportunities are directly proportional to the assets of that same source. Pastor Allen invites us in a daily exposure to Scripture, to consider God is our source. The Bible tells us that He is the author of life. He gives us breath. He is our Redeemer. The story begins in the book of Genesis with the story of creation, revealing an all knowing and all powerful God – a God concerned with all mankind. He gives us hope and a future. He is our mighty source.

The theme of our sermon series that opened the year is continued as we move toward the last season, and the thesis is straightforward: There are unseen forces that influence our lives. It is true in the physical world and it is true in the spiritual world as well. The Church of Jesus Christ desperately needs to live with that imagination because, at the heart of our faith, is a living God Who is dramatically involved with His people in the earth. God is real, and there is a certainty in life that comes from believing in Him. If we open our hearts to God, He will transform our lives. Prayer is the key, and some simple statements are a part of our discussion:

Ò Prayer is a significant tool from God, enabling us to interact with the unseen - protecting us from vulnerability and strengthening our alignment with God’s purposes.

Ò Belief helps the unseen come into view in our lives - what we believe matters and holds tremendous power in our lives and our perspective is pivotal.

Ò There are doors that God will and desires to open in our lives if we will invest the effort to respond through our choices.

Prayer changes us - it can become a powerful force to release God’s will in our lives.

This sermon series focuses on the importance of knowing where we are in the purposes of God because it is highly improbable we can fulfill our God-created destiny without an awareness of the prophetic word of God.

The subject of Biblical prophecy is many times a passionate one, bringing many opinions and much emotion to the discussion. On one end of the spectrum are those whose Christian lives seem to be defined by their prophetic awareness, who might even watch the evening news with the book of Daniel open in their laps. Conversely, there are those who resist the former, who view prophecy as a bit frightening, irrelevant, or who simply do not trust the veracity of it. Our reality is that the Bible is composed significantly of prophecy.

Pastor Allen submits that the primary focus of prophecy is to provide a God-perspective to God’s people. In turn, our perspective of prophecy – how we listen to God’s perspective and our response to it - will determine the opportunities that will come to our lives. An awareness of God’s prophetic word, coupled with an understanding of what God is inviting us to, is important in order to find the place God has created us for in this world. This series helps us examine some fundamental ideas that form foundational truths found in the prophetic Word of God with the invitation to cooperate with God’s Holy Spirit in all the opportunities He provides.

There is a certainty that comes from believing in God. This year's New Year's Series will take you to the strategies we can use to overcome what seems to be impossible by making prayer the center of our future. The voyage of life with God behind the wheel of our lives means there is more we can look forward to that make the journey our greatest reward.
