For centuries, the Church has taken the season prior to Easter as a time for preparing our hearts. Luke’s Gospel reveals that the days prior to Jesus’ crucifixion were days of great difficulty for Him. Yet as He faced the inexpressible horrors that lay ahead, He was completely resolute and focused in His determination to fulfill the assignment that God had given to Him. There are seasons in our own lives when God’s assignments for us are not pleasant. We then have a choice. Either we can focus on the difficulty and the discomfort of the moment or we can keep our eyes set on God’s gracious invitation to us. We are ambassadors for our Resurrected Lord and King, and we need His focused intent as we prepare our hearts for Easter – preparation for compassion, for mercy, for forgiveness, and for truth.
